Welcome to XML Sucks

General NewsWelcome to xmlsucks.com

XML is great - until you have to work with it. This is going to be the place to go when someone is trying to get you to adopt xml as a "solution" because they've been playing buzzword bingo one time too often, or something equally retarded.

Now that someone has "cracked the code", I'll be adding content.

This domain was a zombie until 23:50 on December 27th, 2009. It has been re-animated. You can see its' some of its' previous incarnations via the wayback machine. Here's a good one!

The way I see it scoring (for the contest - but since everyone can judge, feel free to disagree):

  1. Is it somehow tech-related?
I think people will agree that XML is tech-related.
  2. Is it short?
8 dot 3 - just like the old DOS filespec. (No, that wasn't intentional ... just a happy coincidence)
  3. Does it get a bonus for being a dot-com instead of a lesser tld?
    I think so.
  4. Bonus for a live site and content?
I'll be sticking a copy of geeklog on here by some time Monday, and there's LOTS of content about how xml sucks on the web. Links, links, and more links ...
  5. Getting on the first page for search results for a relevant search?
That's going to be a challenge - after all, the domain has been a zombie for a few years (it was empty except for a parking page for a year, then just gone). Let's see if my google-fu is worth anything :-)
So, that's my first entry! (I do have another one, so keep looking !!!)

I agree that XML has its issues, can we come to an agreement regarding JSON? It seems to fit the bill for like 60% of XML's uses, and is slightly simpler to hand-code. Plus it's usually lighter on the pipe than XML.

It does suck. It complicates the obvious. We used to transmit tax return data to the government in a simple text format. Now, they have a complicated web services & XML requirement. It's like using a sledge hammer to drive thumbtacks. These people need to embrace the KISS principle.

> you can't embed similar data inside the XML file without escaping all the angle brackets

Wow, you are retarded. No wonder you hate xml; you don't even understand it. The only thing that sucks here is your site...

Buy Viagra loser.
